  • Features a long-lasting 1¼" tall twist-up eraser
  • Latex-free grip with extended barrel coverage for writing versatility
  • Available barrel colors and lead sizes:

    • 0.9mm: Black, Light Green, Orange  Sky Blue
  • Refillable with Hi-Polymer Lead and E10 eraser
The Twist-Erase mechanical pencils are simple-looking mechanical pencils. No added gadgets or fancy colors on these black bodies. Just a nice latex-free grip (it doesn't smell weird at all), and the top half of the body clicks to advance the lead. The erase, as suggested by the name, twists out and it's a decent size both in terms of length and diameter. I love that you can retract the eraser when not in use so it won't get dirty or broken off when you put it back in your pencil case.

I must admit, I'm a little surprised at how great these pencils are to write with. Something about their shape and design is quite nice. They're easy to hold, and they're light but well-balanced, so my writing ends up being uniform and consistent! They just feel "right" when written with! That's how all writing utensils should feel, right?

Pentel Twist-Erase
I found that both the 0.5mm and the 0.7mm wrote consistently well. The lead didn't develop really sharp edges with the 0.5mm because it's of course smaller. The 0.7mm occasionally developed sharper edges but I put those to use in my tree doodle - to make sharp outlines and distinct markings. Which lead size you prefer is obviously personal. I liked them both equally because I use different lead sizes for different things.

Pentel Twist-Erase Drawing
Don't laugh at my crappy drawing please.
While these pencils are not part of Pentel's Recycology program, they're pretty sturdy and of course they are refillable with lead and erasers, so they will last you a long time. There aren't any parts that can break off or anything. It's a good, reliable mechanical pencil. The clip is metal and is attached to the pencil with a metal ring so unless you really have at it, it will be just fine.

Overall
These are surprisingly nice pencils. I say surprisingly because they don't look very exciting, being plain black bodied mechanical pencils. They're very comfortable to hold and write with, and the lead they came with is lovely for producing clean, consistent lines. The only downside is that the body does not contain any recycled material like many of Pentel's other mechanical pencils do.

**A big thanks to Pentel for sending these pencils for review! I was not paid to write this review but I do get to keep these awesome goodies!

I love mechanical pencils, I have a large collection of those xD These seem really nice!
My favorite ever is the Pentel Function 357 (no longer at Jetpens). It. Is. Awesome. Nothing like having all 3 leads one click away <3

And your drawing is way too cool, love it!

I have a Pentel 0.9 model "QE519-A" (or just QE519) 0.9mm (black) version of this Twist-Erase pencil. It was Purchased in Jakarta - but rather hard to find most anywhere out here.

It is a Wonderful pencil, and the 0.9mm lead size is great. (Plus the 0.9mm leads also fit some of my vintage pencils.) The eraser steals the show though...

I mostly use 0.9mm 2B high quality leads with the Twist-Erase. The generous eraser is great with this larger-sized lead. (I normally use a Uni Kurotoga for smaller lead sizes.) But I find myself carrying the 0.9mm Twist-Erase around not only to write with, but also because it works so well as an eraser - all by itself.

However, the Pentel-branded eraser refills for the Twist-Erase with the stepped-end that allows the eraser to lock into the in-and-out mechanism when you twist the pen are impossible to find out here. So I just use a standard 0.7mm diameter off-the-shelf plastic eraser refill and take my razor knife to the end to make the step myself - with excellent results. So much for "Eraser-Dependency Marketing!

Thanks for the review Azizah... Best Regards, David

Oooh you have a 0.9?? That must be delicious lead! You're right, I've never seen a 0.9 around here. I must google this to see if I can find one hehe. Hey, if you have to hack an eraser to make it work, why not? If I had skills like that, I'd totally do it.

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment and leave your kind words David, I very much appreciate it :)

THREE LEADS? Mary Jane has been talking about an 8 lead on JetPens (I believe it's a Pentel) that I want now too. Not that I need 8 colors but STILL. It would be marvelous.

I'm glad you like my drawing, yaaay! Maybe i'll learn how to draw trees only.

I love the Pentel Function because I can carry 0.3mm, 0.5mm and 0.7mm leads all in one pen (versus 3 different pens, which I used to have).

And yes, I've seen that 8 color lead holder and lusted much about it. It's on top of my wishlist now :D (not that I NEED it, but it's too cool to pass)
