Review: PlePle Choco Pencil Case - Hot Pink @JetPens

As if I ever needed more pencil cases, I went insane and bought one two many at JetPens. This is one of them. Though it's a wrap, so maybe that qualifies as a different category, making me less hoardy?

Size: 8.7" x 7.9"

Review: PlePle Choco Pencil Case - Hot Pink @JetPens
The PlePle Choco pencil case is a roll up pencil case made of a warm, rich tan, synthetic leather-like material on the outside. Inside, there is a moderately hot pink fabric lining. The strings are soft cottony suede with little silver charms on the end that are really cute. The strings are great, tie snugly, and are quite long, so if the wrap is very full, it can still be snugly closed.
Review: PlePle Choco Pencil Case - Hot Pink @JetPens
There is a flap that folds down to protect the lids of your pens. Each pocket is deep enough that all my "normal" sized pens fit comfortably.
Review: PlePle Choco Pencil Case - Hot Pink @JetPens
This ignores my particularly large fountain pens that I probably wouldn't carry in this anyway, more so out of fear for spilling ink on the lovely pink insides. How sad that would be! Also, the case is not very thick nor padded, so I am still particular about what pens go in here. Very expensive, delicate, or vintage fountain pens? I'm sure they would be fine, but I don't do it. Just in case.
Review: PlePle Choco Pencil Case - Hot Pink @JetPens
Strangely enough, I don't stuff this wrap full. I like to put one or two pens in each pocket and use it that way. I don't know why. Organization? Color/size/height requirements? Who knows. I wish there were more lining colour choices. Then I could have one of each. I'm not sure how I feel about non pink pens being in this. Maybe I'm insane. There used to be, but JetPens doesn't have them anymore. Le sad.

Side note: I must own things that refer to or look like chocolate.

Review: Pelikan M205 Classic Amethyst Fountain Pen @AppelboomLaren

Thank you to Appelboom for sending this pen out for review! As it's the same model as the Café Crème, I may repeat myself a little. The focus here is on the different (steel, not gold-plated) nib, and the color of the pen, along with its performance.

PACKAGING
Review Pelikan M205 Classic Amethyst Fountain Pen @AppelboomLaren (1)
The packaging is a hard box inside a white Pelikan sleeve. The box had a faux wood base and a silver-grey lid. Inside, the faux cream leather pouch with red plastic seal holds the pen. The pouch sits on a plastic bed. Underneath the bed, there was the Pelikan warranty booklet.

APPEARANCE
Review Pelikan M205 Classic Amethyst Fountain Pen @AppelboomLaren (10)
The M205 Classic Amethyst is cute and not too big. It has a round body with slightly rounded-off ends. The finial is a silver-on-black Pelikan logo. The chrome colored clip is attached externally. It is the pelicans bill clip, like other modern Pelikan clips. The center band is simple and thin - engraved with Pelikan Germany.
Review Pelikan M205 Classic Amethyst Fountain Pen @AppelboomLaren (2)
The section is small, narrowing towards the nib before flaring out into a lip. There is no ink window because the whole pen is clear enough that you can see through it. The entire pen is a kind of cloudy deep purple. It looks like the color was based on the darker parts of amethyst stones.I was expecting a more polished, clear purple, so it's not that I dislike the color - it's just not the color of purple I was expecting!

NIB & PERFORMANCE

The fine steel nib has a single slit and breather hole. The nib is engraved with Pelikan, the Pelikan logo, and the nib size.
Review Pelikan M205 Classic Amethyst Fountain Pen @AppelboomLaren (7)
One of the things I love about this series by Pelikan is the nibs perform really well. This fine was fairly wet, quite springy, did not hard start or skip, was reliable and consistent, and relatively smooth. It's a great nib to start with, if you don't know what kind of nib you like, or what nib size you want.
Review Pelikan M205 Classic Amethyst Fountain Pen @AppelboomLaren (17)
I think the spring in the nib is a lot of fun, and the feed kept up well with a little bit of pressure, and with fast, long writing sessions.  It's a great daily carry pen, and everyday writer.

IN HAND

The clip was nice and springy - it was easy to operate one-handed. The pen was also lightweight enough that the clip could handle the weight of the pen.

The section, although small, was comfortable with its pinched shape. The lip at the end helped keep my grip in place. I did not find it slippery at all, nor did I find the threads at the end sharp or uncomfortable. I like the size and shape of the section and the pen in  my hand.

Unposted, the pen was lightweight and comfortable. It is on the smaller side, but was well-balanced in hand. The cap posted by friction, seating deeply and securely. Posted, the pen was still well-balanced and comfortable, and the added length made the pen more usable for longer writing sessions.

PROS & CONS
Review Pelikan M205 Classic Amethyst Fountain Pen @AppelboomLaren (18)
OVERALL

As I have said about the Café Crème:
This is a pretty, relatively affordable fountain pen that offers a lot: a piston-filler, interchangeable nib units, and a really pleasant, pretty springy nib. I really enjoy this series because not only do you get all that, but the nibs also fit the M400 series. I think these are great pens to start with, collect, or explore your fountain pen/nib tastes with!

Fountain Pen & Ink Favorites 2015

A quick wrap up for the year, since surely you're all doing better things than reading this. I have no life. Thanks for joining me for another year, here on the blog, and on social media. It's been quite a ride, hasn't it? Let's make 2016 inky and great, shall we?

So many of you wonderful readers have requested a round up of my favorites, so here's some things I reviewed this year that I hopelessly love.

What are your favorites for the year? Are they new favorites, old favorites, and favorites with staying power?

Merry Christmas!
Happy New Year!

OMAS Arte Italiana Paragon - Arco Celluloid Fountain Pen

A large, gorgeous pen, maybe too flashy for everyone, and the metal section isn't for everyone either. Aside from the beautiful celluloid, I absolutely love the 18KT gold nib on this - it's a fine, and it's one of the best, most pleasant fine nibs I've ever used. I wouldn't part with this one because of the nib alone. This is the second fine Paragon nib I've used that has been absolutely delightful.

OMAS Arte Italiana Milord - Arco Celluloid Fountain Pen

This one came before the Paragon, but the celluloid is the same - equally beautiful. The 18KT gold nib here is a broad and it's super, super juicy, and somewhat stubby. The celluloid section feels wonderful in hand and it's smaller than the Paragon, which  makes it a bit easier for me to use.

OMAS Ogiva Vodka Lemon Cocktail Fountain Pen

I really like clear pens, and aside from the faceted shape of the barrel, which makes this one extra appealing, the 18KT gold stub nib is amazing - super juicy, very wonderful line variation. I love it. I also love being able to see the ink inside. It's fun.

Namiki Yukari Nightline Moonlight Fountain Pen

This is an expensive pen, but I'm completely in love with it. I'd never part with this one, ever. It's the perfect size for me. It's so comfortable, it warms in my grip, and it glows (as you can see). The medium nib is flawless. No skips, no hard starts, perfect for every day writing. It keeps up without issue, and I cannot get over the finish. Love.

The following inks are ones I reviewed this year. Some I've used since I started in the fountain pen world, and others I've only used since this year. They're all inks I wish I could have around forever. I love these inks for their colors, shading, sheen, and pop. I like inks.

Diamine SBREBrown

I'm biased, but I love this ink because it's warm and pretty, shades well, and I helped pick the color.
