Ink Shot: Pilot Iroshizuku Mini Boxed Set - Kon-Peki, Tsukushi & Yama-Budo @GouletPens @PilotPenUSA

Thanks to Goulet Pens for sending this adorable mini box over! As usual, it is of impeccable Iroshizuku quality. This is sort of an overview of the set, because to do three full reviews of all three inks would have been an insane post, right? Therefore, I'll show the inks in smears, and then review them fully.

Full review of Yama-Budo here.

PACKAGING
Ink Shot Pilot Iroshizuku Mini Boxed Set - Kon-Peki, Tsukushi & Yama-Budo (25)
This set comes in a really cute, attractive box. It is solid, and is securely closed. In fact, it took me awhile to get it open for the first time. Don't laugh. The top is tastefully marked with iroshizuku Produced by Pilot, and some characters that I assume say something relevant. Inside, the three glass bottles are nestled in a foam bed. It's a very secure box - they won't fall out, they don't wiggle around, and they're not going to break under normal circumstances.

APPEARANCE

These little bottles are adorable. Like the full size Iroshizuku bottles, they are elegant and classy. They are clear glass, with a small white label on the front, indicating the color of the ink. The lid is faceted, black plastic. It's just so cute. I love these bottles, and there's no cuter way to tote 15 ml around than this!

SWABS - RHODIA ICE

On Rhodia, the inks look so nice - bright, clean, and with lovely sheens that don't take over the writing. You can still see the base color of the ink very well on this kind of paper. On regular copier-type paper, I just don't bother. Most inks feather and bleed, and these are not much of an exception. I don't have to use copier paper for any reason,  so I don't.

SWABS - TOMOE RIVER

Tomoe River is known for its outstanding fountain pen friendliness - and it's no exception here. These ink swabs/smears did not even bleed through the paper. In addition, they shade so beautifully on here, and the sheens pop off the page. This is the type of paper you use when you really want to experience the ink you're using, and these three inks demonstrate that well.

PROS
  • A great trio of colors - usable but not wacky.
  • Well-behaved (in terms of being in your pen).
  • Great sheens.
  • Easy to clean - the most effort lies with cleaning the Yama-Budo.
  • Nice way to test out three colors.
  • Perfect gift for your ink-loving friends.
  • Mouth is wide enough to fill from.
CONS
  • It's only 15 ml - when you run out, you'll want more!
  • Not water proof colors.
  • Not well tolerated by regular/copier paper.
OVERALL

This is such a cute set. The box is classy and elegant, as are the tiny, adorable bottles inside - just as you'd expect from the Iroshizuku line up. The colors in this box are superb. I would have picked these three myself. Great for gifting, collecting, for using, for carrying with you if you need just a bit more ink in your pen - whatever, find an excuse.

I received this item free of charge for the purposes of this review. I was not compensated monetarily for my review. Everything you've read here is my own opinion.
