I have a Capless (which should be the exact same as the VP) and I would definitely not classify my medium as a Japanese medium, it's quite a full medium. That's the 18k nib though. I use this pen purely for taking notes and it does that beautifully. I wouldn't use this pen to write letters with though. I don't feel it's made for that. The clip (which doesn't bother me) and the small ink capacity seem like worthwhile trade-offs if you use this as a note-taking pen. One other thing that this pen provides is single handed use. For pens like the Dialog 3, you still need two hands to twist the pen to reveal the nib. It's not an alternative in my eyes.
