Review: Stipula Calamo Florentine Red @AndersonPens @Stipula_1948

This perfect red came over from the ink corner of Anderson Pens! I really don't know how I've not heard of it before or why it doesn't get more press because it's pretty great - a very nice red that behaves very well. Nothing to complain about here.

PROS
  • Great red - not too bright, not too dark.
  • Good flow.
  • Cleans easily, especially for a red ink.
CONS
  • Not water resistant.
OVERALL

This is a surprisingly nice ink! Why is this ink not all over the place?? It's a pretty ideal red ink - well behaved, easy to clean (reds can be notoriously difficult to clean), good saturation and flow, dries decently, no feathering, decent shading. It's not a crazy mind-blowing red like J. Herbin's Rouge Hematite, but it's not going to be a pain in the neck either. You get a nice big bottle for $19.00, so give it a whirl. Lots to share, or just use up by yourself. The only downside is it's not water resistant. But most inks aren't.

  1. Have you used their pink? I'm looking for one for my wife and they have one I thought about getting. Was decent $ at GPC and Jet.

  6. Looks like a very nice color! Doesn't seem to pale even in finer and drier nibs. Seems like I have to get a selection of Stipula inks some day, I've also heard a lot about their green and sepia. Thanks for sharing!

  7. Azizah, have you ever used this red in one of your demonstrators? I've been wondering if it stains. I grabbed a bottle of it and it is lovely, just as great as their Verde Muschiato. Sadly their saffron orange is a tad too light.

  8. Haven't used their pink... but I really like their muschiato green and this red is pretty bang on for an everyday red, so I imagine the pink is pretty awesome.

  9. I have put just about every red I have in my TWSBI 540/580 but never in my Pelikan M1005.. though I have put some crazy purples in it and those left stains I had to clean out and it ended up coming out just fine!
