Review: Kaweco Skyline Sport Pink Fountain Pen @Fontoplum0 @Kaweco

Ok, Kaweco seems to be in tune with what I fancy. Imagine if they made a purple one next...

PACKAGING

This Kaweco was very simply packaged, in a plastic sleeve, inside a small cardboard box. The box is decorated with the Kaweco logo and motifs. At this price, I feel like this packaging is more than enough. (I like the Kaweco tins, but I have a lot of them now...)

APPEARANCE

This pink Skyline is the Skyline Sport! It has a small, round body with a slightly rounded off back end. The cap has flat facets around it that cover most of its length. It is engraved with Kaweco Sport on the side in silver. The finial has the Kaweco logo in silver. Like the mint Sport Skyline, the trim is all silver, and I really like it against the bubblegum pink of this pen. The section is on the smaller side, but it suits the pen. It's round and has a slight indentation, and ends bluntly.

The Sports look like pocket-sized pens, but once posted, they look normal - that's part of their appeal. I love how they look either way. If Kaweco keeps going with these colors, I'm going to end up becoming a collector of the Skyline. I'm starting to think the grey Skyline would be a perfect match for this pink.

How pink is it? Pictured below with the Lamy Safari Pink and the Lamy Safari Neon Coral.

NIB & PERFORMANCE

The double-broad steel nib is silver, to match the rest of the trim. It has the Kaweco logo stamped on it, along with some flourishes, and BB for the nib size. I like that the nib sizes are clearly indicated on Kaweco's nibs.

I have found that Kaweco nibs tend to run on the dry side, which is a quick adjustment, but I left it as is for this review. The finer nibs don't exhibit this as much. Drying times were fast, as the nib was somewhat dry. Once the ink was flowing, the nib wrote pretty consistently but on the occasional stroke, there would be some skipping. I also experienced a few hard starts, but if the feed was well-saturated (via priming), this went away. The hard starting was fixed when I made the nib a little wetter. With pressure, the feed basically just dried out, so this isn't a nib that offers much in the way of line variation. I enjoyed the somewhat stubby shape of the nib, and the slight amount of feedback the nib offered. It was not very smooth or buttery, nor was it scratchy. Overall, not a bad experience, and what I expect from Kaweco's steel nibs.

IN HAND

These are clipless pens, but you can purchase clips separately. The section serves its purpose without issue. I don't find it uncomfortable but it's not crazy comfortable either. It just works. It's a light, simple pen so this is just fine.

The Kaweco Sport models are very comfortable - I love the feeling of the plastic as it warms in my hand. I like to use mine posted because it's just the right width, length, weight, and balance this way. I can also use it unposted, but it feels a little short. I love how deeply and snugly the cap posts. It's very secure and feels safe.

OVERALL

Yeah, it's just another Sport. If you enjoy collecting pens on the affordable end that are also comfortable, portable, and easy to use, then it's hard to argue with the Sports. I think the colors are a lot of fun, particularly this bubblegum pink (although I do know this won't float everyone's boat!). There are quite a few nibs to choose from, or you can even tinker a little and fit the calligraphy nibs on to your preferred Skyline Sport.

I received this item free of charge for the purposes of this review. I was not compensated monetarily for my review. Everything you've read here is my own opinion. However, I think it's pretty clear I like pink.

Oh dear. I have the grey Skyline and I agree, the pink would look good with it. Because one can never have enough Kawecos?
