Review: Pilot Hi-Tec-C 0.4mm Gel Ink Pens

After having reviewed the micro tip Pilot Hi-Tec-C 0.3mm gel ink pens, I figured next up should be the Pilot Hi-Tec-C 0.4mm gel ink pen!
Review: Pilot Hi-Tec-C 0.4mm Gel Ink Pen
The Pilot Hi-Tec-C 0.4mm gel ink pen shares the same body as the 0.3mm  previously reviewed. Same clear plastic barrel and colored plugs. Once again, grip is lacking on this pen but I don't grip pens very tightly so I don't NEED grip. Having grip is just a bonus. Like I mentioned in the 0.3mm review the pen body is not outstanding and I don't care much for it. That doesn't mean I hate it, it's just not anything to praise.

Come now. Does this pretty row not make you smile?
If a micro tip is daunting to you, the 0.4mm is a nice compromise. The tip feels a little sturdier than that of the 0.3mm Hi-Tec-C. Even though it's slightly larger, the 0.4mm writes very precisely and intricately. You can do some wonderful things with this tip size, while tentatively dabbling in the world of micro tips. Once again, don't purchase this pen expecting a butter tip - but you can expect a smooth, clean writing experience with consistent ink flow and very little scratchiness (if any at all). I only find this pen scratchy when I'm writing on toothy paper, so this is more a result of the paper than the pen, because on smooth paper like Rhodia, the pen is not scratchy whatsoever. Even on "normal" paper, there is no scratchiness.

And again, as I mentioned in my 0.3mm previously reviewed, these pens have been sitting in a pen cup for quite awhile, and none of them have dried out in the least bit. I am rather surprised by their extensive shelf life, but very relieved because I have so many Hi-Tec-Cs in my stash. Every now and then, Pilot discontinues some of their colors, which obviously translates to me stocking up on said colors. If you do the same thing, you can find some comfort in knowing they will last you awhile.

I honestly have no complaints about the Pilot Hi-Tec-C 0.4mm. They write well, they come in the same beautiful array of colors that the 0.3mm come in, they are not scratchy, they write consistently, and the tips are sturdier than the micro tips (0.25mm, 0.3mm).

Overall
I truly believe that everyone should try a Pilot Hi-Tec-C at some point in their lives - in each tip size. While they are not cheap gel pens, they write very nicely and precisely, and the selection of colors won't disappoint anyone. The Pilot Hi-Tec-C 0.4mm gel ink pen is one of my favorites! Plus, it fits perfectly in my Render K.Obviously. But it's a joy to use in the Render K.

GASP. Unused pens?!?! Oh my. That is a naughty thing to do. Seriously. I try to use all my pens at least once as they come in... hehehe. Really though, agreed. The colors of these are just so awesome.

Yay for fellow pen addicts! haha. Hi Azizah - have any of your Hi-Tec-C's ever stopped working? If so do you have any tricks/tips to try to get them working again? Thanks! :)

It has recently happened to me! A kind person emailed me with a few tips - aside from the usual scribbling on paper to get it going or leaving the pen tip down for awhile (in case it's just an air bubble stuck in it), you could always try VERY CAREFULLY heating the tip with a flame. It could just be that there is some dried ink in the tip. Please be very careful when doing this so you don't melt your tip! I'd suggest heating slowly then scribbling for a little, and repeating. I hope it works :)
