Review: Dr. Seuss 10 Colour Multipen @RaymondGeddes

Harry from RaymondGeddes sent me a parcel of goodies, which included MULTIPENS. I love multipens. I always need more multipens. I'm not sure why, but I do. RaymondGeddes has school supplies and novelties - there is a huge selection of things to look through. Huge. Lots of scented things, too! So anyway. Let's have a look at this Dr. Seuss multipen!

APPEARANCE

These are relatively short, quite wide, and very cute pens! They are approximately 5 inches long. One of these pens is the red with the barrel decorated with the "Cat in the Hat" hats, and the green pen is decorated with scenes from Green Eggs and Ham. There are two other designs that are really cute. I totally wish I had all four, because I have one-of-everythingitis. There are ten tabs around the top of the barrel to select the colours, and a big button at the top of the entire barrel to press to retract the selected colour.

PERFORMANCE

The ten colours are: black, pink, light blue, purple, blue, red, green, orange, brown, and yellow. All the colours are pretty accurate, except the red may be a little less intense than expected. It's still obviously red though. The tabs extend easily and retract really well with the button on top. Often with novelty multipens, I have found the tips get jumbled and caught when trying to switch colours. The button on top fixes that problem by retracting the entire system so you can pick a new colour.

You'd think that, with such a wide barrel, the pen may be uncomfortable to write with. Since it's such a light and short pen, it's actually not uncomfortable to use. It's quite easy to use it extensively. I really enjoy playing with it and scribbling extra notes to myself.

OVERALL

Since you can get them in packs of twelve, they'd be great for goodie bags for birthday parties, treats for giving out at Halloween, or for your classroom since the school year has just started. Or for yourself. Or Christmas. Or whatever. Do we really need a reason to get a multipen? No.

Review: Scent-Sibles Scented 6 Colour Multipen @RaymondGeddes

Harry from RaymondGeddes sent me a parcel of goodies recently and it had one of my most favourite things: something scented. Not that I'm obsessed with perfumes, because I'm not. I just like scented stationery. Shall we smell this pen now? Yes.

APPEARANCE

This is a pretty cute pen - it's not super long, and the barrel isn't really thick (like with some multipens). The barrel is clear and has little drawings with the names of the scents of the inks on it. There is a plastic clip and six tabs around the top of the barrel to pick your ink colours.

PERFORMANCE

Sometimes with multipens, one of the colours don't work as well. Between both pens, only the pink from one of them didn't work 100% and it still wrote quite well. It's just that it skipped more than I would have liked and it annoyed me a bit. The rest of the colours worked just fine and were quite smooth and consistent. There was no ink blobbing - another issue that can afflict multipens.

The colours of the pen and their matching scents are (at least from what I could figure out by sniffing them):
Light blue - rockin' root beer float
Purple - groovy grape snow cone
Red - hooray for PB & J!
Pink - whatta! melon
Orange - sinful cinnamon bun
Green - sour power! dill pickle

Well. The colours are pretty common, and they're really nice. I like them all, especially the blue, purple, and pink. The scents are... less common. Dill pickle?! I've never come across that scent in scented inks before. Very unusual. My favourite scents were the groovy grape snow cone and the whatta! melon. The others were a little harder to identify, and while I love peanut butter, I don't like the scent in my ink, because it feels like I had peanut butter smeared somewhere. The others I figured out by scribbling and sniffing the ink patch. The grape and watermelon smell really good. The root beer isn't bad either but I have no idea why it's matched to the blue ink!

To pick a new colour, you just pop the purple down (in between the clip) and it retracts whatever colour is in use, and you can pick a new colour. So far, nothing has gotten jammed.

OVERALL

This is an interesting scented multipen - it looks cute and it's scented. The scents are pretty unusual though! Nevertheless, multipens are a great gift, especially for students, so picking up a box of these is not a bad idea. The scents aren't overpowering, so if scents bother you, don't worry too much!

Penventory

This has to be done sooner or later. All pen freaks addicts (is addict any better?) lose track of what they have, and begin to wonder about it. I decided to do a complete inventory of all pens, pencils, erasers, and correction tapes. It was an epic undertaking. I totally underestimated what I had and how much space it would take up.

With this being shared, you can expect some more giveaways in the near future...

Comparison: Pilot Hi-Tec-C Coleto 5 vs. 4 Component Body

Have you been trying to decide between a Pilot Hi-Tec-C Coleto 5 component body and 4 component body? Perhaps these pictures will assist you! It's hard to picture, and you may be wondering if the five component body is too big, or if the difference between the two is negligible.

The 5 component body is not significantly larger than the 4 component body, but it may be enough to deter you, or affect your writing.

I have "normal" girl hands and I don't think the 5 component body is too big, unless I'm using it for extensive writing. But for jotting things in my Filofax, or even doodling where I stop to plan my next doodle step, it's just fine. If you're worried about the size, stick with the 4 component body, just to be on the safe side. I do love having five colors available though, that rocks!! Who doesn't love multi pens?

Of course, the perfect solution here is to get both...

Review: Pilot Hi-Tec-C Coleto 5 Color Multi Pen - Clear Pink

Brad (@dowdyism) at JetPens has generously sent a Pilot Hi-Tec-C Coleto 5 color multi pen in clear pink (plus refills!) for review. Many thanks to you Brad and JetPens!

The Pilot Hi-Tec-C gel ink pens are quite popular and are known for their great micro tips, lovely ink,  and don't forget their range of colors! I myself have a good 50 Hi-Tec-Cs or so (I know...but some were being discontinued so I had to stock up on them) but I really wanted to try the Coleto. The reason for this is because I like "all-in-one" things. It's much easier to carry one pen with five different colors than five separate pens, right??  (This is the same reason I hate having to carry a BlackBerry AND an iPod Touch... why can't they just morph into one device of awesome? Anyway...I digress). So I really have a thing for multipens. The sad thing is, I only own one: the Bic 4-color in fashion colors. I know, it's not much of a multipen.

Pilot Hi-Tec-C Coleto 5 Color Multi Pen vs. Pilot Hi-Tec-C

0.4 mm tips

I'm not kidding when I say I spent hours on JetPens, trying to pick the body and refills I wanted. In the end, I narrowed it down to the 5 color body in clear pink with the following refills:

- 0.5 mm violet
- 0.4 mm apricot orange
- 0.5 mm apple green
- 0.5 mm baby pink
- 0.4 mm cherry pink

I absolutely LOVE all these colors!! They're cheery, springy, and happy. I think they all fit together quite nicely as well.

The body is quite simple: it's a simple plastic make up that's easy to figure out and use. Pop the cap off at the top, put your refills in, and pop it back into place. Easy peasy! It's also great because you can see what color refill to select based on the color of the knob at the top. The sides of the refills also indicate the tip size (in case you're not a nib-freak and can't tell just by looking at it...). Okay so I won't blab about the body. For the price, it's not going to blow your mind as far as component bodies go, but it's cute and not too expensive.

There is a thin layer of grip around the barrel near the tip and it's just for gripping purposes, not cushioning so don't expect it to relieve grip pain if you hold your pens tightly. Especially in the case of the larger barrels. Speaking of larger barrels, I thought the 5-body would be really bulky but it wasn't and I am able to write with it comfortably. I wouldn't have a writing marathon in it but it's fine for doodles and jotting notes in my journal (given the price of refills, I don't want to use it for every task anyway...).

A great thing about Coletos is that you can get a whole bunch of different bodies if Hello Kitty pink isn't your thing. There is also a whole slew of refills including various tip sizes, a mechanical pencil, and stylus. You can do some serious customization with what's available!

Having written with the Hi-Tec-C before, I was expecting similar performance and I was not let down! The Coleto refills write wonderfully - there was not a hint of scratchiness or skipping (although neither 0.4 mm or 0.5 mm are thaaaat fine). They don't show through or bleed through, under normal writing conditions. It dries very quickly too and doesn't smear - perfect for left-handed writers (who also deserve nice pens).

My only complaint is that the refills are too expensive for how long they last. They are much smaller than regular Hi-Tec Cs and don't last as long. Gel ink runs out pretty quickly in general, and the Coleto refills run out even quicker!

Overall:
Super fun to write with and so many color options available! Given the price of the Coleto bodies, the price of refills and bodies sort of "balance out". Okay. That's just me justifying that I'm going to continue to use the Coleto because I love having this multipen and I love the colors Pilot has made for them! I'm already looking at another Coleto body so I can have one of each color always at hand!
