Montblanc James Purdey & Sons Cigar Brown Scented Ink

The Montblanc James Purdey & Sons Cigar Brown Scented ink is the most recent addition to the James Purdey & Sons collection, following the exquisite and highly delectably scented Single Malt Whiskey. If you have not smelled that one, you must.

The Cigar Brown is a classy dark brown ink that shades moderately. It is not super saturated nor is it dilute - it is just somewhere in the middle. It does not really show any sheen - I find the saturated pools of ink end up appearing quite matte. The color is quite clean and pure as far as browns go - it doesn't really lean to the yellow side or red side. It is on the dry side and is quite well-behaved, and is surprisingly easy to clean. The scent is quite mild and leans to the sweeter side, and is inspired by cigars and influenced by the post-hunting ritual (which I know nothing about. I'm just sharing with Montblanc said). It doesn't linger much on the page or in the pen, but it is nice to the nostrils - at least, to mine. It's not overwhelming like many other scented inks are so if you're curious about inks that have something else to them, it's fun to check out. On the downside, at nearly $50USD a bottle, it's certainly a splurge.

As always, I grabbed my (small hoard) of Montblanc James Purdey & Sons Cigar Brown Scented ink from Appelboom. In case you want something there, you can use the discount code 'friend' for 10% off your, unfortunately, non-Montblanc purchases because Montblanc doesn't allow it. I know, this is a Montblanc ink. There are many other things to shop for! Enjoy!

De Atramentis American Whiskey Gold Brown Ink Scented

This gold brown fountain pen ink by De Atramentis is scented. The warm tones and specific scent of whiskey give the ultimate sensation. The 35 ml bottle contains high quality ink suitable for all fountain pens.
About de Atramentis
The "Tintenmanufaktur" De Atramentis from Hachenburg, Germany has been producing high quality inks for over 25 years. All inks are entirely hand made, according to recipes from different eras.
This is an interesting ink - quite a light color with low saturation but I think it looks really nice for shading. It also smells really good. More of a novelty ink than anything else because of how light it is, but it's fun! It's pretty feathery and bleeds through - seems a little watery.

OVERALL

I love shading inks, and I have found that light to medium inks tend to shade the best, especially since I use stub, broad, and flex nibs. It's no surprise then that I really enjoy the shading of this ink! I could live without the scent because I find it a weird mixture of a chemical orange and floral blend, but it fades quickly and isn't too strong. It resembles Pelikan Edelstein Amber very, very closely, and is not as expensive.

Review: Scent-Sibles Scented 6 Colour Multipen @RaymondGeddes

Harry from RaymondGeddes sent me a parcel of goodies recently and it had one of my most favourite things: something scented. Not that I'm obsessed with perfumes, because I'm not. I just like scented stationery. Shall we smell this pen now? Yes.

ABOUT
Review: Scent-Sibles Scented 6 Colour Multipen @RaymondGeddes
Body Material: Plastic
Length:  5.5"
Price: $10.20USD/12
Where to buy: RaymondGeddes

APPEARANCE

This is a pretty cute pen - it's not super long, and the barrel isn't really thick (like with some multipens). The barrel is clear and has little drawings with the names of the scents of the inks on it. There is a plastic clip and six tabs around the top of the barrel to pick your ink colours.

PERFORMANCE

Sometimes with multipens, one of the colours don't work as well. Between both pens, only the pink from one of them didn't work 100% and it still wrote quite well. It's just that it skipped more than I would have liked and it annoyed me a bit. The rest of the colours worked just fine and were quite smooth and consistent. There was no ink blobbing - another issue that can afflict multipens.

The colours of the pen and their matching scents are (at least from what I could figure out by sniffing them):
Light blue - rockin' root beer float
Purple - groovy grape snow cone
Red - hooray for PB & J!
Pink - whatta! melon
Orange - sinful cinnamon bun
Green - sour power! dill pickle
Review: Scent-Sibles Scented 6 Colour Multipen @RaymondGeddes
Well. The colours are pretty common, and they're really nice. I like them all, especially the blue, purple, and pink. The scents are... less common. Dill pickle?! I've never come across that scent in scented inks before. Very unusual. My favourite scents were the groovy grape snow cone and the whatta! melon. The others were a little harder to identify, and while I love peanut butter, I don't like the scent in my ink, because it feels like I had peanut butter smeared somewhere. The others I figured out by scribbling and sniffing the ink patch. The grape and watermelon smell really good. The root beer isn't bad either but I have no idea why it's matched to the blue ink!

To pick a new colour, you just pop the purple down (in between the clip) and it retracts whatever colour is in use, and you can pick a new colour. So far, nothing has gotten jammed.

OVERALL

This is an interesting scented multipen - it looks cute and it's scented. The scents are pretty unusual though! Nevertheless, multipens are a great gift, especially for students, so picking up a box of these is not a bad idea. The scents aren't overpowering, so if scents bother you, don't worry too much!

I received this pen free of charge for the purposes of this review. I was not compensated monetarily for my review. Everything you've read here is my own opinion. There are no affiliate links in this review.

@Shoplet Review: @Sharpie Premium Pen, Neon Markers & Metallic Markers

These office supplies were sent by Shoplet for review. Thank you to Shoplet and Sharpie for this review opportunity! I was stoked when I saw the NEON and METALLIC markers! Sold.
Sanford Shipment Shoplet
Sharpie Sunglasses
Sharpie Premium Pen - $4.63USD each

Sharpie Premium Pen
Features
  • Offers a smooth, high-quality writing experience.
  • Delivers clean and concise lines that are permanent and smear-resistant.
Sharpie Premium Pen
The Sharpie stainless steel premium pen is aesthetically pleasing and looks far nicer than the plastic bodied Sharpie pens. I like these much better. The torpedo shaped stainless steel body is smooth and cool. The grip is rubberized for gripping, and is firm and not squishy. The entire section unscrews because it is refillable. The cap clicks pleasantly and is also postable.
Sharpie Premium Pen
I love the tip of this pen - it's not extremely fine, but it's very precise and clean writing, it drives very fast and resists smearing well. It suits "zentangling" and doodling very well. When posted, then pen has a great balance and weight to it. It's not top heavy and it's very comfortable to write with. The grip makes it very easy to control the tip, which is why it's perfect for precise doodling and writing.
Sharpie Premium Pen
It would be great if the refillable plastic section was made of recycled materials, and if the refills were available in colours other than just black. The Sharpie pens are available in beautiful colours so it would be really nice to fall in love with those as well.

I have previously reviewed this pen and had issues with the cap posting and being loose - that seems to have been fixed and is no longer an issue with these pens, therefore it has only improved in my books.

Sharpie Neon Permanent Markers - $6.02USD per set
Sharpie Neon Markers
Sharpie Neon Markers
Features

  • Brilliant, vivid color in daylight.
  • Mark fluoresces under black light.
  • Vivid ink leaves permanent mark on most surfaces.

These very awesome Sharpie neon permanent markers look like your typical Sharpies - but they are even more brilliant! The colours pop and you surely cannot mistake them for anything but neon! They have the classic fine point tips you'd be familiar with from Sharpie - they aren't ultra fine and can't really be used with for precise writing, but are perfect for drawing, doodling, decorating things, etc.
Sharpie Neon Markers
The ink flows really well on many surfaces - paper, plastic, and glass, all of which I tested myself, but also is said to flow well on wood and leather. The ink is water-, smear-, and fade-resistant so it'll last awhile on your surfaces. I also decorated my snazzy Sharpie sunglasses in zebra stripes using these neon glasses.
Sharpie Neon Markers
Sharpie Neon Markers
I wish I had a black light handy to check out the ink fluorescing! That is extra fun. You can write secret notes to your pals on black paper!

Anything I don't like? Nope. I'm crazy about them.

Sharpie Metallic Fine Point Permanent Marker - $3.50USD per pack
Sharpie Metallic Markers
Sharpie Metallic Markers
Features

  • Designed to provide brilliant sheen on both light and dark surfaces with the same bold, smooth no-shake performance of the Sharpie Metallic writing system.
  • Marks are permanent on most hard-to-mark surfaces with a precision fine point.
  • Alcohol-based ink formula is quick-drying, fade-resistant, water-resistant and certified AP nontoxic.

Sharpie Metallic Markers
Sharpie Metallic Markers
The Sharpie metallic markers are gorgeous. They look like regular Sharpies except they don't have clips - because they are supposed to be stored tip down. The ink is very brilliant in both the gold and silver, flowing effortlessly on paper, plastic, and glass. It shows up well on light and dark surfaces, although it is really outstanding on dark surfaces. The ink is water-, smear-, and fade-resistant so it'll last awhile on your surfaces.
Sharpie Metallic Markers
They smell a lot more intense than regular Sharpies as well, so be aware of that if markers that smell bother you.

Anything else I don't like? Just like the neons, nope. I'm crazy about these metallic ones too. They are gorgeous.

Full disclosure: These office supplies were sent for review by Shoplet. I was not paid to write this review, but I do get to keep these cool goodies!

Review: @SulaJaneandEarl Journal, Phone and Pen Cover - Cloud

I finally got an iPhone a few months ago. Yes, after five years of having a BlackBerry (shut it). So when I saw Sula Jane and Earl making this Journal, Phone, and Pen Cover, I was like WHAAAAA. Because I love having things that hold all my accessories together in one place. Yes, like a bag. Only better.

ABOUT
Sula Jane and Earl Phone, Journal, and Pen Cover - Cloud
Size: 6.25" x 10"
Color: Cloud
Price: $47.00USD
Where to buy: Sula Jane and Earl

APPEARANCE

This handmade Journal, Phone, and Pen leather cover has three openings - one for your smartphone (or mobile, I suppose... do people still use those?), one for your writing instrument of choice (I'm guessing a fountain pen and stylus combination), and a pocket-sized notebook. A beautiful trifecta, no? There is a little strap to button your leather cover closed so nothing falls out. I rather love it. It is simple and lovely.
Sula Jane and Earl Phone, Journal, and Pen Cover - Cloud
PERFORMANCE & FEEL

I love the leather used by Sula Jane and Earl. In this case, it is the perfect softness - soft enough that it molds around your device, pen, and notebook, holding them all snug in place, but it's easy enough to remove them. It is soft to the touch. Oh, and it smells delicious.
Sula Jane and Earl Phone, Journal, and Pen Cover - Cloud
Is it handy? Most definitely. I love being able to pull this from my bag and have my three favourite things ready and waiting for me. In the coolest way possible.
Sula Jane and Earl Phone, Journal, and Pen Cover - Cloud
PROS
  • Many gorgeous colours to choose from.
  • Lies flat, even when full.
  • Very convenient way to keep my three favourite items together!
CONS
  • No.  None.

  • Gorgeous red, aptly described by "love letter".
  • Smells like liquid roses.
  • Dries fast.
  • Shades nicely, especially in broad nibs.
  • Well-behaved.
  • Smell remains while ink is wet and will remain on the page for awhile.

     CONS
    • Not water-resistant.
    OVERALL

Is there anything more romantic than an ink called Love Letter that smells like rose oil? Not disgusting, artificial roses, but actual roses? It's beautiful. It's a beautiful red that is a joy to write with and is a treat for the senses. I only wish it were water resistant and that the scent of roses would last longer. Nevertheless, it's absolutely delightful. I hope Montblanc releases this ink again. I would buy it in a heartbeat. (Get it? Heartbeat?)
